What happens when Dave leaves...

Every single time Dave leaves, something goes wrong. Whether it is me being on bed rest, Evelynn being put in the hospital or the sprinklers breaking etc, there is always something!

Today it was the car breaking. I went out this morning to pick up my share of fruit and veggies from my food co-op called Bountiful Baskets. I was picking it up at someones house instead of the usual pick up because it was later and we all know how much I like mornings. I had some simple directions written down, no problem right? Except I can get lost inside of a cardboard box!

Anyways as you can guess, I got lost. We drove around and around forever. Then I thought I was on the right street and I was so confused because I couldn't find the house number, until I looked at the street sign and I was on the wrong street. Big surprise there. So I turn around and start heading back the other way to find the right street. That is when the car starts smelling, then smoking! I quickly pull over and open the hood, smoke pour out everywhere. Thankfully a nice older gentleman sees me and pulls over. He starts looking at it but I can tell he doesn't really know anything. Then he freaks me out by saying maybe I should call 911 because it could be on fire. WHAT? Do I need to pull the kids out and run? What the heck?!!

So I quickly call my brother in law because he knows tons about cars and lives close by. He saved me the last time Dave was gone and I ran out of gas.... about 100 yards from the gas station. Anyways he answers his phone and tells me he is on his way to California, great! Now what do I do? I explain what is going on and he says it is probably a leak somewhere but it is safe to drive it home. (Keep in mind that I am still trying to find the house with my food!)

So I tell the nice man that I will be ok, because he keeps looking at his watch, and send him on his way. I open the car door and smoke pours out, apparently it was going in the car too! So the kids are coughing and saying it smells bad, bad mom award!! I roll down the windows and start to drive, guess what though, I cannot steer! Then the light bulb goes off in my head, "didn't I mention I was having problems steering a while ago to Dave? Maybe I should have followed through on that!"

So I carefully and slowly drive over to the house and apologize for being 30 minutes late and get my food. Tons of sweet potatoes included, yea!!! I manage to drive home thankfully. After tons of poking around and talking to Dave on the phone, which was very interesting because he was trying to explain car stuff to me, yeah right, I discovered a leak in the line for the power steering. So proud of myself for finding, just cannot do anything about it until Dave gets back...

What is with the curse of things going wrong when I have no husband to fix it or help?!

I am so sorry Lindsey! When Mark has left I have gone into early labor, and then shortly after that, I had to have emergency surgery to remove my appendix (while trying to find someone to watch my 7 week old baby!!!)
