Ben is here!

Well as many of you have already here, Ben made his entrance to the world on April 6, 2010 at 10:01 am. He weighed 6 lb 12 ounces and was 18 inches long. I will give you the short version of his arrival. I went to the hospital the day before because I was having a lot of back pain. After watching me for a couple hours the decided to admit me. Soon after my contractions were slowing down and be erratic. Late in the night/ early morning they were thinking of sending me home because I hadn't dilated more but I was contracting very regular. I convinced them to wait until the new doctor came in a little later because I knew her and wanted to talk in person. The reason for that is because the exact same thing happened with Michael and I went home them my labor came back so fast I hardly made it to the hospital, many of you probably remember the story. Well this time we live a lot farther from the hospital and Dave isn't here so to go to the hospital I have to find someone to watch the kids and to drive me! Thankfully the new doctor decided that I was far enough along that she just broke my water. By then my wonderful friend Mary, who had been with me the entire time, decided to run home and take a shower. Just a little while later I had the nurse check me because I was feeling a lot of pressure. Well I surprised her and was already to push! I quickly called Mary to hurry back. Unfortunately she made it back with my other great friend Jeanne-Marie only minutes after Ben was born! It was a very easy delivery for me thankfully. Mary was able to go down to the nursery with him while he had his bath and got checked out which was so nice.

The next day they checked his glucose and it was very low so it was decided that he would be admitted to the level 2 nursery which is basically like the NICU so he could have a continuous IV and be watched. It was very strange not having him in my room but I went over there every couple hours to feed and hold him. The nurses there were just amazing and made it so much easier for me. I think word spread about Dave being gone so I got some special care. I made friends with some other parents in the nursery also.

By the time it was time for me to go home Ben was doing great and was released just a few hours after me.

We are now home and he is doing great. Slowly getting the hang of nursing but he is doing better every day.

I am just so blessed and happy that he is here and so healthy for being 4 weeks early. The kids love him and are doing great helping me take care of him.
Dave is not going to be able to come home and see him but I have been sending lots of pictures and in just a few days we will be able to Skype with him so he can see him on the webcam.

I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has helped me through this pregnancy, especially to Mary who helped me so much in the hospital and made it a better stay, not having to be alone!!!
