Finished my 5K

Well I finally did it!I have been wanting to run a 5K for along time. After Michael was born 3years ago I got really motivated and signed up for one. Did some training, not tons, but decent. Then right before the race I came down with the worst flu ever. I stopped throwing up the day before the race and decided to still do it. I was so weak from being sick that I walked 95% of it. Gave up running after that.

Then a couple months ago I got it in my head again to try. Started some serious training but then I kept going on vacation and totally not doing any running! Earlier this week I was about to back out because I didn't feel ready but I was feeling the start of a cold. Then my friend Andrea called me and said she signed up at the last minute and wanted to do it with me. Ok, now I totally couldn't back out! It would be totally fun to have a friend to do it with, I never pass up girl time!

So I picked Andrea up bright and early and we headed out. By that I mean drove the 5 minutes to the start line, the race was right next to our neighborhood. At this point I was remembering that Andrea is a serious runner so I let her know that she would probably be waiting a while for me at the finish because I was going to be slow with all my walking.

We line up and as soon as they say go, I feel everyone whoosh past me, including my buddy. Man these people run fast! At first I panicked and tried to keep up with them but then I remembered that I wasn't here to get a great time, just to do it and if I ran too fast I would get worn out. So I slowed down to my normal pace and just tuned everyone out. To my great surprise I ran and ran, just kept going! Towards the end I took a couple walk breaks, but only for a few seconds each.  It was really an amazing feeling pushing my body like that and it not giving out. Guess it is stronger than I thought!

I ended up surprising Andrea at the finish line, she wasn't expecting me yet! That was a great feeling also! I finished 55th out of 99 women, not bad. But the best part was feeling so proud of myself of accomplishing something that is very hard for me. I am not a natural runner, it is something I have to work hard at. And having Dave come home and tell me how proud he was of me was also very cool!

I'm very proud of you sweetie. More than I can do for sure. Keep up your training!
